TOWNS COUNTY, GEORGIA

Towns County is one of the northernmost counties in Georgia.  It is bordered on the north by the North Carolina state line and the Appalachian mountains to the south.  Seventy-five per cent of the county is part of the Chattahoochee National Forest and surrounds TVA Lake Chatuge.  Hiawassee and Young Harris are the two major towns in the county.  Hiawassee is the largest town and is the home of the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds which hosts many nationally known artists each year during its summer and fall events.  Young Harris College, a private two-year Methodist college, is scenically centered in the town of Young Harris at the foot of the mountains.  It is a fully accredited Christian college that offers a complete academic list of major studies.  Brasstown Bald, the tallest peak in Georgia,  is in Towns County at over 4800 feet in elevation and the view is spectacular.  There is a museum and observation deck at the summit.  Many mountain retreats and resorts make their home in Towns County.  Brasstown Valley Resort near Young Harris is the largest resort and has a link below.
