Clay County, North Carolina

Clay County, North Carolina is due north of Towns County in western North Carolina and lies on the north shores of TVA Lake Chatuge.  The town of Hayesville is the county seat and sits at the foot of the spectacular Tusquitee Mountain Range.  The area is known for its excellent scenery, outdoor activities, and mountain habitat.  The small community of Hayesville is growing and enjoys a quiet lifestyle and “old town” feeling.  It has a quaint downtown square with a wonderful courthouse that dates to pre-civil war times.  The people are warm and generous with a sense of preserving the past.  Several festivals are held during the year on the square with crafts, music, and artists.  The TVA Chatuge dam is located close to Hayesville and offers nice picnic facilities, biking/walking trails, and access to the lake.  It is a great place to live or just visit.
